I Have a Confession to Make

I have a confession to make. I’m all into being out-of-box, coloring outside the lines—the no-clone zone. And yet with this blog, many times I’ve been a bona fide right-brainer trying to fit in a left-brained box.

I’m so sorry. I just can’t do it anymore.

Here’s what’s happened. As a right-brained person, I see things in 3D—as a whole. And being very intuitive, sometimes I just know things that I didn’t get to logically, linearly. I connect the dots. I just know and I just see.

When I have written blog posts or speeches, it has taken me so looooong. And I finally figured out that that’s because I take the whole picture idea that is in my head—my right-brained concept—and try to translate it into left-brained language that can be understood. Left-brained thinking is logical, linear & sequential. Backed by facts, figures—you get the idea.

Most of the advice I’ve seen for blogging comes from a left-brained perspective, and I’ve tried to comply. But it isn’t working.

This week, after being out for two weeks because of my Mom’s death, I was looking through what I had saved in Evernote for ideas for blogposts and a couple of speeches I’ll be giving before the end of this month.

“How to…” “5 Steps to…” Information overload!! All black-and-white–ARGH! I couldn’t take it!

So…I’ve decided to lead with my right. My strengths are on the right side of the brain, and I’ve got to go with that—although I don’t really know what all that means or how it will play out. And I’m sure it won’t be purely right-brained stuff—I’ll be linking the two. But I’ve got to lead with the right.

Some of you have helped to re-enforce this decision. The two posts that are most right-brained—Make Your Own Vision Board or Journal—and Right-Brain Time Scheduling Strategy have been the most responded to! That’s a real encouragement to me that I’m headed in the right direction.

I’m excited about this change–I feel like I’m out of the box and being me at last!

Have you made decisions like this for yourself? How did they turn out?
